2 arrested after robbery victim attacked with crowbar under KC bridge

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Two people are behind bars after a man was injured in an attack with a crowbar during a suspected robbery under a bridge in Kansas City.

Jackson County, Missouri, District Court records show Aidan Barber, 25, of Kansas City, was charged with robbery, armed criminal action and possession of a controlled substance on Monday, October 14, following an incident under a bridge in the city limits became .

Kansas City, Missouri, police said around 7:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the area of ​​18th and Prospect Ave. with reports of a robbery. were called. When they arrived, they found the victim, who reported he was under the bridge when Barber and another woman, later identified as Malinda Groves, approached him.

The victim reported Barber accused him of stealing and encouraged Groves to rob him. Barber took the victim’s wallet and the $200 cash inside before hitting him with a crowbar.

When investigators returned to the scene, they discovered that Barber and Groves were seen walking in the nearby woods. When backup was called for, the couple ran through the parking lot of the Kansas City Rubber and Belting Company and went after the nearby Family Dollar. The officers were able to arrest both of them.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials said more than one gram of methamphetamine and two glass pipes were found in Barber’s possession. Both Barber and Groves denied any wrongdoing.

Barber was then booked into the Jackson County Detention Center. Groves, who was on probation for a previous weapons conviction, was also charged.

As of Thursday, Barber remains behind bars on a $100,000 cash bond and Groves remains behind bars with no bond listed. Barber has a bond review hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m., and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. Groves has a parole status hearing scheduled for Thursday, October 17 at 2 p.m.
