The mother of an NHS worker who lay unconscious on a park bench and died after being subjected to a horrific sexual attack has said her family is “celebrating” the attacker’s conviction.

Mohamed Noor Iidow was searching for a vulnerable female victim on the night of the attack on July 17, 2021, when he discovered Natalie Shotter, 37, lying on a bench in Southall Park, west London.

Iidow subjected Ms. Shotter to a sickening attack. Footage of the attack shown at the Old Bailey left the jury teary-eyed.

His defense argued that Ms Shotter may have been dead before his client discovered her on the bench.

There was evidence that Iidow overstimulated the nerves in Ms Shotter’s throat, leading to a fatal heart attack.

The 35-year-old murderer was convicted of rape and manslaughter at the Old Bailey.

After the guilty verdict, Dr. Cas Shotter Weetman, Ms. Shotter’s mother, outside court: “We are happy for her children and that after three and a half years we have finally gotten justice for Nat,” adding that she is a “beautiful soul.”

Dr. Weetman added: “We’re celebrating, of course we’re jubilant, absolutely jubilant about the result, I can’t tell you what it means to us.”

“She was a beautiful, beautiful girl, an NHS worker, worked for charities, mother of three, just an incredible soul, (and) kind. “She had so much to give, so much more to give.”

Jurors at the Old Bailey wept as they were shown horrific footage of the sickening attack by 35-year-old Mohamed Noor Lidow

The Old Bailey heard that Iidow left Ms Shotter, who stood just over 5ft tall and weighed 45kg, dead on the bench. Her body was found a few hours later by a passerby.

Police initially viewed Ms. Shotter’s death as unexpected before arresting Lidow on August 4, 2021.

The victim’s mother, cardiologist Dr. Cas Shotter Weetman, criticized the Met Police after two officers allegedly told Ms Shotter’s friend there was nothing they could do to help her.

She led a campaign for justice for her daughter and believes a culture of misogyny in the Met contributed to her death.

Lidow was charged with manslaughter and rape on December 21, 2023, and was convicted on both counts by a jury of eight men and four women.

The NHS worker’s family sobbed in the courtroom as Lidow was found guilty in a unanimous verdict.

Lidow said a few words to a supporter in the stands, but otherwise showed no reaction to the verdict.

The court heard that Lidow had previous convictions relating to “online sexual offences”.

The Commander-in-Chief of London, Judge Richard Marks, KC, adjourned sentencing to December 14th.

Jurors wept as prosecutor Alison Morgan recounted harrowing CCTV footage.

The court heard Natalie had been drinking and taking poppers before lying down on the bench.

“At 11:41 p.m. her arm can be seen moving and swinging a little, she is lying on the bench,” she said.

“Natalie is lying there and there is nothing to indicate that she has suddenly fallen to the ground dead or that she is having a seizure.”

“The consumption of alcohol and poppers could have caused her to lie down like this, she must have been sleepy and semi-conscious.”

“The prosecution argues that even if she had consumed these substances, there would have been no reason for her death before that point.”

“Maybe she laid down on that bench because of what she ate.”

“What was the defendant doing there? What was he going to do as he walked up and down the paths in the middle of the night?

The prosecutor added that Lidow was “looking for a vulnerable woman for the purpose of rape.”

But Lidow’s lawyers argued that he may not have caused the death – or that Ms Shotter was dead before he met her.

Peter Glenser, KC, defending, told the jury: “There is no evidence that Ms Shotter moved after 11.41pm. You can’t rule out the possibility that she’s dead.”

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who led the Scotland Yard investigation, said: “Lidow’s predatory attack on Natalie was disturbing and shocking.”

“This man drove to the park that night and took advantage of a vulnerable woman who should be safe.”

“Even after his arrest, Iidow attempted to claim that his actions were consensual.

“This case has deeply affected those involved due to its rarity and tragic details.”

“We had to prove that Natalie’s death was caused by rape, and that required painstaking work using experts in the field to charge and now convict Iidow.”

“I commend the strength of Natalie’s friends and family who have had to listen to these details throughout the trial.” Iidow now faces a lengthy prison sentence.”
