BJP MP from Gujarat charged with rape and intimidation as directed by Supreme Court

A rape case was filed against BJP MP Gajendrasinh Parmar in Gujarat on the orders of a Dalit woman following the directions of the Supreme Court.

The accused, a former state minister, was charged with rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and criminal intimidation under Section 506 in connection with an alleged incident in July 2020.

Parmar is also charged under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

This action follows the Gujarat High Court questioning the police for failing to register an FIR based on the survivor’s complaint against the MLA representing Prantij Assembly seat in Sabarkantha district.

According to the complaint, on July 30, 2020, Parmar called the woman to the MLA’s quarters in Gandhinagar where he allegedly had physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. She further alleged that the MLA later started ignoring her calls and threatening her, warning that he would not spare her if she spoke out.

In 2021, the woman filed a special criminal petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the police be directed to register an FIR.

Additionally, Parmar is facing another case related to molestation of a minor in Rajasthan. In April 2023, the Gujarat High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail application in connection with this case.
