Wrong-way driver charged with DUI after FHP pursuit ended in PIT on I-275 in Tampa – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

TAMPA, FL. (WSVN) – A driver going the wrong way on a Florida highway caused a very dangerous situation during the overnight hours.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted a Kia Sportage traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 in Tampa just after 3:50 a.m. Sunday.

The officer attempted a PIT maneuver, but the woman behind the wheel of the Kia continued driving. It took another PIT maneuver to get the driver to stop, causing the SUV to crash into a wall.

The woman was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence causing property damage, possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of an accident.
