Officials violating court orders will be punished: Telangana HC

Hyderabad: Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court made it clear that any officer who disobeys the court’s directions must be punished. No excuses would be accepted if willful disobedience to court orders was proven, he said.

The judge was dealing with a contempt case filed by A. Murali Mukund, former secretary of Jubilee Hills Co-operative House Building Society, against M. Haritha, Commissioner of Cooperation and Registrar of Co-operative Societies, for delaying the construction of an inquiry report into alleged irregularities, including transfer of property of the company by the board of directors of the company in defiance of the orders of the Supreme Court.

He drew the court’s attention to the fact that the Commissioner neither shared the details of the inquiry report with the members nor submitted the inquiry report to the court. In fact, she asked the court to dismiss the contempt case filed against her.

However, the judge explained that she could not evade the contempt proceedings on any vague pretext. Justice Bhaskar Reddy noted that she should have complied with the orders before the contempt was filed and said she was criminally liable. But, Mohana Reddy, the government advisor told the court that Haritha was transferred from the said post and hence could not produce the inquiry report.

The judge said that the court will consider the details of her transfer and other merits and punish the officer if it is proven that she violated court orders.
